ABOUT

hi, i’m barbara

A graduate of Wellesley College and Boston University School of Medicine, I am a licensed mental health counselor, couples coach and consultant who has been in private practice for over 10 years. I specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Couples Coaching, and Emotionally Focused Therapy.  My practice serves a diverse clientele; including business professionals, students as well as couples. My approach is strongly humanistic, client-centered and cognitive behavioral but includes other eclectic therapeutic methods customized to your individual needs.

I provide a safe and trusting environment where clients can develop new strategies to change dysfunctional thought and behavioral patterns. I help clients identify dysfunctional beliefs, self-defeating thoughts, feelings and behaviors and collaborate with clients to develop a more effective approach that enhances their self-confidence and overall well-being.

background

Prior to my career in private practice, I worked in the Emergency Room at Boston Medical Center, counseled opiate addicts at North Charles Institute for Addictions and worked with musicians on managing their performance anxiety at the Berklee College of Music. I became passionate about mental health work during my career as a competitive and professional figure skater. Having to perform challenging athletic programs in front of live audiences 6 nights a week for over 8 years, I gained first-hand experience managing performance anxiety.

mission

I believe that one of the key factors in successful therapeutic outcomes is building a safe, trusting and respectful collaboration that focuses on the whole person; emotional well-being, physical health, career, relationships and general life satisfaction. I am passionate about my work and feel privileged to help clients heal, grow and succeed in finding acceptance and peace in their life’s journey.

When I’m not working, you can often find me cheering on my teenage daughters at their sporting and music events or finding my zen at yoga.

Thank you for reading my story, and I hope to speak with you soon!
